INSIDE THE FPHL: Justin Portillo
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BILOXI, MS- When we were thinking of who to cover for INSIDE THE FPHL this month, we noticed it was October, so we thought we would cover one of the most intimidating, frightening, spooky players in the FPHL, Justin Portillo.
Portillo has found a home in Port Huron in the FPHL, playing in the Maritime Capital of the Great Lakes in all four of his FPHL seasons.
A Toledo, Ohio native, he quickly became a force in the area of the fisticuffs, in the last three seasons he found the penalty box for 230 minutes. That is including a shortened COVID-19 season.
"I was a Toledo Storm and Detroit Red Wings fan, so watching them had an influence on me playing hockey. I consider myself a high-energy, physical player that works hard and will do whatever it takes to help my team win. I go hard to the net, block shots and finish my checks," said Portillo.
Justin was in Biloxi with Joe Pace last week before they both went to Pensacola to skate with the Ice Flyers.
Justin's hard-nosed physical play in the FPHL landed him a training camp spot in the SPHL this year.
"Justin is the kind of guy that you don't want to suit up against. His physicality definitely leaves that kind of impression," said Biloxi Pro Hockey C.O.O Joe Pace.
"This season, I will be reporting to Pensacola for training camp. Port Huron will retain my rights in the FPHL. Port Huron is a hockey town and the fans are awesome. I love being a part of the Prowlers organization.", said Portillo.
You have two chances to see the Port Huron Prowlers on December 2nd and 30th.
